The Public Suffix List is an accurate list of domain name suffixes. Though developed for the Mozilla Firefox web browser, it is available for general use, and is maintained by the Mozilla Foundation. It was created to help browser manufacturers, but is available for use in any software, and is released under the Mozilla Public License.
Some features are:
- Avoiding "supercookies" being set for high-level domain name suffixes
- Highlighting the most important part of a domain name in the user interface
- Improving sort history entries by site
